Job Description

Background

The Green Life Online was founded after Earth Day 1990.  The mission of the Green Life Online is to educate, engage, and empower green-minded and health-conscious consumers, helping them make more informed decisions, while guarding against greenwash advertising, and building a consumer-driven movement toward sustainable consumption.  We use email-driven organizing, a vibrant blog, and social media presence to educate, outreach, and advocate for a greener planet.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Social Media -

The interns will be trained in new media tools for online outreach, engagement, and organizing.  The goals are to raise visibility for the Green Life throughout the blogosphere, on Facebook and Twitter, growing a following through interacting and posting new content.  This also will include targeted outreach to other online hubs for green lifestyle information.
Blogging -

The interns will coordinate the research and outreach for the daily web updates and in-depth interviews.  For our "Greenwashing" campaign, they'll research and highlight the worst cases of false eco-friendly claims in advertising.  They will also write content for our website and may conduct interviews with leaders in the environmental community.
Outreach -

The interns will be trained in list-building and coordinating outreach to other blogs, media outlets, and foundations.  During media campaigns, the interns will be in charge of press release distribution.  They'll also curate our outreach list.

QUALIFICATIONS

Web skills - familiarity with Facebook and Twitter, ideally on behalf of a company or organization

Good organizational skills

Writing skills - experience with writing for a cause, ideally with research and outreach for interviews

Passion - a strong drive to save the planet, and to bring more people into the movement to do just that

LOGISTICS

Hours - Start and end dates are flexible, though most interns will start in January and continue through April, with possibility of extending into the summer or the following fall.  Generally, interns work 5-10 hours per week, with a mix of direct training and independent, self-driven work.  The level of commitment can be tailored to fit a qualified candidate's schedule.

Compensation - This is an unpaid internship, but course supervision is available.
Training - interns will be trained in online organizing and outreach, as well as research,

Location - The internship is located at our office in downtown Boston, but after training, there is the possibility of working off-site.
