Job Description

AD TITLE: Organize for change in California right now! Work to protect the oceans with CALPIRG Organize Students in California!  If you’re looking for a powerful opportunity to change California for the better, consider CALPIRG (California Public Interest Research Group). CALPIRG is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that works for the public interest on a range of issues.

Right now, CALPIRG campus organizers are working with college students across California to protect the ocean by passing local bans on single-use plastic bags. Nothing we use for a few minutes should pollute our environment for hundreds of years. Plastic bags are one of the top culprits that make up the toxic and hazardous mass of trash in the Pacific Ocean. This plastic soup is estimated to be twice the size of Texas and kills millions of marine animals and birds every year. CALPIRG students are educating their campuses and communities about the threats of plastic pollution by getting media coverage on creative events, gathering petitions in support of local city-wide bans, and holding beach clean-ups to stop the use of these harmful products immediately.

Campus Organizers and students involved in our chapters will also run campaigns to reduce the cost of higher education, educate kids and citizens about ways to reduce their energy use, and participate in the 28th annual Hunger Clean Up, a one day service and fundraising event. We'll raise over $25,000 for local, state and national poverty relief programs and do hundreds of hours of service.

We are currently hiring for a campus organizer to join our team and work in Irvine California.
